WELCOME TO PASSPORT SCHOOL YEAR 2017-2018

Dear Parents or Guardians,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school year at Passport.  I am excited to have your Middle School students in my Social Sciences and Physical Education classes.  Having worked in education for over 10 years at the K-12 levels as a Basketball Coach, Soccer Coach, Chess Coach, Robotics Coach, Student Government Lead, Fitness Instructor, Psychology/College Success Instructor, and now entering my 7th year teaching at Passport, having taught the varied subjects in the Middle Grades of Health, Mathematics, Physical Education, the Sciences & the Social Sciences, I know what it takes to be successful in these formative years.  It is my goal to pass on the appreciation and excitement I have for learning in a way that will help your student be successful in whatever he or she might choose.

My expectations include the following: your student comes prepared for class each day, ready to learn, and with respect for all. With your support, we will be able to create a safe and effective learning environment.

During the school year your student will be required to complete social science projects, including participation in the Passport Middle School Trip Around the World in October.  I will include dates for homework and assignments on my teacher website: http://8th.passportcharter.org/wp-admin/ .  As a Middle School team, we also intend to go on fun and educational field trips throughout the year.

Important Internet Resources (usernames and passwords will be provided as necessary):

  • Progress Book (grades, missing work, etc.) progressbook.ocps.net
  • Pearson (Middle Grades Social Science) successnetplus.com
  • Orange County Library (kids connect – homework/test assistance) ocls.info
  • My email: rburke@passportcharter.org
  • Passport Charter School Website: passportcharter.org

Working together, I’m sure this will be an exciting, fun and successful year.  I look forward to working with you and your student.  Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  Thank you for all your support.

Sincerely,

Mr. Burke
